Reading to the moon and back

Le Centre Culturel Francophone de Vancouver (CCFCB) is a French cultural organization based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Le salon du livre is a Literature event/book fair featuring Francophone authors from all over the world to promote French language and culture in Vancouver. They wanted a poster to promote the new event, as it was their first year. The event was a success! They had more visitors than hoped and when asked how they heard of the fair, 60% of  them replied “I saw the poster and loved it!”.
The brief for this project is every designer’s nightmare: make a visual that will be appealing to any francophone from 7 to 99 years old. The CCFCB was very trusting and they were ready to be surprised! I love books! I’ve been reading for a long time, I love how letters together make words that make sentences, that make stories, that give you emotions. I wanted to make a visual that shows the treasure coming out of the pages, without any restriction. To be universal and touch everyone I needed to talk to people’s inner child and represent the lively world that comes out of books, taping into Jules Verne’s world. Through the years I changed the dominant color, and added the octopus to add movement and get the reader into the center of the attention.
